The Low Down
EDITORS TIPS
Parking: Spots are hard to find on Santa Monica Blvd., but they can be found between Fairfax and Crescent Heights (although on weekends give up the dream after 10 pm). The best spots to park for free are actually on Fairfax Ave. just south of Santa Monica Blvd. at a meter, if you don't mind walking a block or two.
What to Drink: Beer here is obviously the way to go, as Surly Goat has a selection that would make most beer snobs blush. Everything from Obsidian Stout to Pliny the Elder (Russian River brewing company) is here on tap. But "the Goat," as it's now known to locals, also has a full liquor license for those who want something stronger.
The Extras: With two patios (one facing Santa Monica Blvd), this bar is a smoker-friendly establishment...as long as the law allows it.
Know Before You Go: No food is available here (as of early 2010).
